Using FTP

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is used to upload files into websites. This is very different from how you would do it in say freewebs or on the neopets pages. I can tell you now thats its very easy, trust me if i can do it, so can you. Now before we get started you much know that every FTP program is different. You can either download coffeecup which is what i am going to use in this tutorial or something different but i only know how to use coffeecup as i havent tried much else. There is an FTP on a website which means its all on the web and you dont need to download a thing but i have no idea how to use that sorry.

Step 1

Download Coffee Cup from HERE Its free so it doesnt cost you anything. Once you have installed it etc open it up, at first it may look a little daunting but i assure its not you ignore most of it lol.

Step 2

Now open up a new notepad document (must use notepad) and type/copy/paste whatever you want such as css graphics etc, then click save as. Now as a very important step, name your file what you want such as index index is the main page that every one sees first when coming to your site) then type the file extension such as .php which is what i use or .htm Make sure in the save as type option says all files. See below.

Step 3

Now click the servers button in the top left of the program and a new dialog box will appear. Enter in the information that your host or whoever gave you the domain/subdomain would have given you. Nickname is just so you can recognize which account you are using, comes in handy when you have more than 1 ftp account.

Step 4

Now comes the fun part. All you have to do to uplaod the file you saved in step 2 is drag the chosen file from the left to the right. Make sure you dont drop the file into the cgi-bin though. That should stay empty. Right click to refresh, rename files etc. See? Nothing to it.
